Step 1: Quilt Top

The Sewing Process

To ensure your quilt project has the best results:
1. Use an accurate 1/4" seam allowance. Check your foot/needle position before starting a project. Program your machine or make a note of the desired setting. Some machines are programmable, whereas, other machines require setting adjustments each time upon starting.
2. When sewing the quilt top, trim units precisely. Using quality tools makes the creative process easier. We recommend a mixture of Creative Grids and Bloc Loc rulers. See our "Ultimate Quilter's Tool Kit" sets. Fill your quilter's tool box with quality tools to make your creative process simpler and more fun.

4. Measure borders to attach. To ensure a straight quilt, the border fabrics should match the side, top, and bottom measurements of the quilt top design. By measuring and pinning to establish accurate connection points, your quilt will have less chance of border fullness.

Step 2: Backing

Quilt Backing Options

Quilt backing can be sewn with various size fabrics. The most common are:

Standard (40/42" wide x WOF)
Wide Back (108" or larger x WOF), aka "Quilt Backing"

Wide back fabrics allow a seamless back; hence, no sewing nor pressing seams to prepare the quilt back.
Standard fabrics require piecing and pressing of the seams. We recommend arranging fabrics to maintain a selvage on two opposing sides of the backing. Sewing a 1/2" seam on backings increases durability.

Step 3: Batting

Batting Makes a Difference

The following batting brands are available. Click on each brand to be directed to their website page detailing the product.

Hobbs Heirloom Premium 80% cotton/20% polyester (Natural, White, Black)
Quilter's Dream 100% Cotton (Natural, White)
Warm & Natural and Warm & White

Batting is a matter of preference, much like sewing machine brands. Choose which works best for you.

As a special courtesy to customers utilizing our long arm quilting services, you receive a bonus 10% discount on batting.

Do you need batting for home quilting projects (not for a quilt we are long arm stitching for you)? "The Studio" offers batting in prepackaged sizes. Batting by the bolt is available via preorders.

Step 4: Thread Color

Solid or Variegated Thread

At "The Studio", we feature Superior Threads OMNI (solid colors) long arm thread. The link is available to view the multitude of colors available. Choose your favorite THREAD is available at "The Studio". Customers choosing long arm quilting services do not need to independently purchase thread.

Step 5: Stitch Design

What is

Edge-to-edge quilting refers to a continuous stitched design repeated throughout the quilt from one edge to the other.

What designs are available?

Whether your quilt pattern is traditional or modern, we have many long arm quilting designs available from which to choose.

Perspective from a Long Arm Quilter:

If your quilt includes "busy" fabrics, a simple stitch design will create a quality outcome. A dense or intricate stitch design will get lost in the fabrics.
A quilt featuring primarily solid or tone on tone fabrics affords an opportunity to showcase a more intricate or dense stitch design. The design is showcased by the beautiful yet simple fabrics and becomes a secondary pattern.

Step 6: Quilting Services

Ready to Finish the Quilt

Get your quilt ready for snuggles! Now that your quilt top is completed, it is time to finish the quilt. Don't store the beautiful top in the closet. You invested time and heart into making a wonderful project. Let's take the final step together - and get it stitched.

edge to edge computerized quilting
quilt trimming
binding preparation
straight edge binding application

Long arm quilting design stitch out varies in price from $0.025 to $0.05 per square inch. The price is determined by the density and complexity of the chosen design. See samples at "The Studio" at DayBrook Designs LLC to determine your favorite stitch design and thread color.

Once your quilt is stitched, staff is available to trim it to size. By removing the excess fabric and batting, your quilt is ready for binding.

Binding services include: Level 1 (create binding by cutting fabric, sewing together, and pressing so you are ready to attach it), Level 2 (binding machine sewn on the front of the quilt so you may complete stitching it down to the back), and Level 3 (your already prepared binding machine sewn on the quilt front and hand sewn on the back), and Level 4 (binding preparation and complete attachment).

IMPORTANT: Requirements
All quilts, batting, and backing presented to DayBrook Designs LLC will only be accepted if they are from an environment free of smoke, vape, or drugs. Borders must be free of excess fabric. Quilt tops and backing must be well pressed plus free from holes and excessive loose threads. Items must be ready to be setup on the long arm machine to allow for quick turnaround of your project. While nothing is perfect, a well sewn and prepared project results in a beautiful finished quilt. Ironing boards are available for customers to press their project prior to intake.
